"Random Audits of Supervisory Agreements"
Several PAs in the state of Missouri have received letters that they have been selected to have their PA/Physician supervision agreements audited. I thought it would be a good idea to place some information about this process here on the website to help any of you with questions about this issue. This process was part of the law that we passed in 2006 and is in section 334.104.6 which authorizes the Board of Healing Arts to conduct random audits of collaborative practice agreements as well as physician assistant supervision agreements.
The selection of who gets audited is strictly random. The tone from the board about this is that this is an educational process and not a punitive process. If deficiencies are identified then the investigator will identify these and communicate them with the PA/physician and they will have a period of time to correct them and provide proof that they were corrected. The investigators will be working off of a checklist when they conduct the audits. I have been told that discipline will only be sought in the event of flagrant violations or if the physician refuses to comply.
I hope this helps clarify any confusion as well as helps to calm any fears that you or your colleagues may be experiencing. As always, if you have any questions feel free to contact me or contact the Board of Healing Arts directly.

How to Join MAPA
Many of you have already received your MAPA renewal notice. Please take a few minutes and make sure that you renew your membership today. If you did not receive a renewal notice or you have not been a member before, this is the best time to join as our membership goes from July to July; this means you will benefit from a full year of membership. Your membership will help to provide for our representation in Jefferson City as we continue to strive to improve the laws and working conditions for the PAs of Missouri. Membership also shows unity to our state leaders and helps us have the most accurate and up to date contact information on our PAs to help keep them informed and well involved in the issues that affect all PAs in the state. I know this is something that can easily be put off for another day but please renew/join today and encourage your PA colleagues to do the same. You can join right here on-line or download a paper application and renew/join through the US Mail. If you have any questions about membership or general PA questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail and I will respond as soon as possible. As always, thank you for your continued involvement with MAPA and with the PA profession.
